Dexter: Credits Connotation and Denotation

Dexter is a TV series about a person who works at a Miami police department and at the same time, living a secret life as a serial killer in the evenings hunting down murderers who have slipped through the cracks of the justice system. In this video, it shows Dexter's morning routines but everything that he does seems to be in a violent way.

Slapping of the mosquito after it sucks Dexter’s blood	There are evil people in this world who are trying to kill Dexter, but he is also a serial killer capable of killing and doing violent things
Shaving his beard, cut on skin from razor blade	Using sharp everyday objects with power like using a knife to kill people. Blood being shed
Wiping blood off and putting on band aid	Covering up his crimes and wiping evidence.
Cutting up meat and searing	Process of killing and deforming body to cover evidence and identity. Slowly cutting a person limb from limb.
Eating ham	Joy of killing his victims.
Cracking Eggs, slicing eggs and squirting of ketchup	Physical violence and quick slicing. Squirt of ketchup suggests blood being spilled during process.
Blending of coffee	Blending flesh of victims to avoid any evidence
Crushing orange	Gouging victims from the inside
Wrapping dental floss and ropes around finger tying shoe laces	Slowly choking victims with rope tightly. Tying shoelaces suggests tight wrapping of ropes when covering victim with a body bag.
Shape of face and putting shirt on	Covering up identity
Walks out of apartment door with smirk	Suggests that he knows that he will get away with the killing

In this lesson, I had a chance to use Adobe premiere again, but now, I learned how to transfer audio separately and learned how to adjust audio and blending them all in to create one group of sounds best fit for a video. 

There were many sounds to choose from and they came separately, but in this video of Pointbreak, it was a scene of a crime and the an was chasing the burglar into boulevards to department stores and into houses. Sounds such as screaming, foot steps, dishes crashing, windows shattering and car horns were used effectively.

Last Friday, I got the chance to play around with Premiere and edited a credits scene inspired by the 1966 film The Good, the bad and the ugly. 

This was what the original credits looked like:   

I tried to achieve a more simpler version of the credits by adding fonts available on Premiere and the Colour Matte option to create a colour back ground to my black images.

After that lesson, it made me realize that editing was not an easy task, it takes a lot of practice and a lot of time to learn the basics.

Evaluation
During the one week of filming and editing, our first project came out well and I myself was impressed with the amount of work that our group had put into this one minute movie and we all worked hard on producing it.

On the first day, we planned on what topic we were going to do, and finally, we ended up deciding on filming a remake of a movie. At first we came up with the idea of filming a parody of a horror movie but since there were already a lot of films and videos on social media that made parodies of horror movies before, we decided to instead, film a remake of a recently released action movie. We finally agreed on remaking Jurassic world because the storyline was easy to follow, it would turn out funny if it was a parody and most importantly, each member of the group can play at least one part in the film due to the number of notable main characters in the movie. During the planning, we looked at Nigahiga's movies in minutes to get an idea of parodies and how to apply comedy into our work.

Equipment
For me personally, I thought that using the camera was the most difficult part of this assignment because you have to control your camera and adjust the white balance and brightness to create the mood of the video. Furthermore, you also have to remember to follow the 180 degree rule when suitable and also, you have to remember the different camera techniques such as long, mid, pan, track or close up shots in order to create mood, suspense and comedy. I had difficulty controlling my hands even when I use a tripod which made most of the footage in our video a little shaky. But on the other hand, I had most fun using the camera even though it was challenging because you get to control the scene and the outcome of the movie and I personally enjoyed being the cameraman and the director in my group.

In conclusion, our movie has its positives and negatives. What i personally think was good about our movie was that we had many props and costumes, our story is good and our acting made the audience laugh. However, I think we need to improve on our editing skills, camera work and time management on shooting the scenes and bringing in the props on the right day. But overall, I am proud of my work and it was a good first attempt. 

If I had to do this project again, I would help out more with the editing and not let Shir edit by herself. I would also want to improve my camera skills and make them better. Finally, if I had to do this assignment again, I would want to have a longer time period on this work in order to get a better final product and better responses.

I also direct the cast, setting them up to find the best angles and lighting for shooting. Moreover, i teach my team to use the camera when I have to be in the scene. Finally I play as Chris Pratt in the movie.

Jurassic World Day 2 & 3

Jurassic World Remake

Lesson 2&3

On the 2nd day, we started filming scenes where we had the correct props, day 2 we filmed most of Chris Pratt's (Pooh) scenes and the scenes with the toy dinosaurs. By accomplishing moving shots of the dinosaurs, we had to take various snapshots and angles of the toy dinosaurs, zooming in and out to create an effect of the dinosaurs moving in closer and turning their heads.
