Filming Day 2

On the second day of filming, we started filming the short shutter cuts for the beginning of the film, we filmed in a room at my house and set up lights and camera in a small empty room. All we wanted was to film silhouttes of the actors kissing and the silhoutte of Ten drinking alchohol. In the end, we will combine these scenes together to create a combination and comparison of "obsession with alcohol" and an "obsession with love" are similar things. This scene is portrayed through the girl and we achieve this by positioning the 2 scenes exactly in the same positions to show effects of transformation and similarity.

Today we will be filming the shutter cuts before the opening of "Obsession". Today we filmed the "obsessed with drinking" cut and the "obsessed with technological world" cut.

Today, we did some rough shots of what the filming would be like when using an actual location and lighting. The scene of drinking the alcohol and the gaming console.

Here is just an overview of what the actions of the actor will be like without the silhouette and on the 2nd and 3rd of filming, we will start filming these actions into silhouettes and shadows. 

Planning: Logos, Idents, Ideas

During one of our staff meetings online, we presented ideas for the logos that we will add to the credit sequence. We were thinking of adding 2 of "our" film studios/ production house in the credit sequence. After that, Nano and Ten went to make the designs.

Here are all of the documents we filled:

Shot list: Sheet we needed to fill overtime we start filming. We need to fill in the location, props, camera, everything we needed to make the movie opening and check whether they are in good condition or not.

Call Sheet: Meeting of casts, crew before filming, giving them meeting times and location of the shooting. Also, this sheet points out clearly the different roles everyone needs to do whilst shooting and the equipment each member of the team needs to bring. Also, this sheet reports on conditions and gives us the solution to everything e.g: problem with weather at the location, it will provide us with solutions and a second best alternative to where we could go or to postpone this take first and move to another location.

Risk Assessment: Similar to call sheet, points out different dangers and the risks of it happening. Also, it helps us think of how to control these dangers if they ever happen.

Production meeting: A sheet that we need to fill during staff meetings highlighting on agendas that we need to discuss and other ideas we need to come up with. Furthermore, this sheet for us was also kind of a casting sheet because most of our staff meetings, we thought of casts to play the girl and the dead boy. Finally, this sheet tells us who came to the meeting and who is not. 

Pitch Feedback

For us, these two pitch sheets were the most important sheets that we had because they were comments from other groups after we presented our ideas to them. These comments were vital for the perfection for our movie opening. At first, the others worried that our film would be too long for an opening, it had too much dialogue and our story was not strong enough. In the end, we reflected on these comments and noted them when we were editing, filming and re writing storyboards and scripts.

Planning: Character Analysis

Character Research and Characterisation

On the second day of the planning we talked about the inspirational character of the movie "obsession".

Our character analysis are based 3 characters.

                        

    

1)  Yuno Gasai from the anime Future Diary. Yuno's personality is an ambiguous one. For the most part she is a sweet, feminine and sometimes shy girl. But, she also hides a dark and sanguinary side. Ruthless, cold and calculating psychopath who resort to cruel and usually violent methods, most of the time coming out of nowhere, that generally end in bloody deaths. 

2) Jennifer from Jennifer's body: 

Jennifer Check was a narcissistic high school flag girl who was sacrificed in a Satanic ritual by the wannabe indie rock band Low Shoulder in exchange for success in the music business. Due to not being a virgin, Jennifer's body was possessed by a Succubus. In order to sustain her life and nourish her strength, Jennifer became a killer and would seduce boys on the school campus in order to feed on their flesh and blood to retain her flesh that is slowly going away. 

Combining Jennifer and Yuno:

For the girl character in our film opening, we are aiming to combine Jennifer and Yuno together to create a perfect psychopathic girl like what we visioned. By taking Yuno's psychopathic personality and Jennifer's incentives of hunting down different boys creates a perfect match on what we expected in the beginning; a crazy girl who has an obssession of killing boys in order to be with them. But when the time they get bored, she goes and hunt new ones. 


Characterisation

For our movie opening, the girl character would be the acting the most and will be a vital backbone to the story. So, in order for our movie opening to go on, we want to slowly expose her identity. 

By achieving this, we would first make the killer look as if she was a normal person by dressing her up in normal clothing, not to unique, gothic or psycho (as if she came out of a mental hospital). Instead, she would wear a school uniform. Moreover, the girl would be placed in a place with a lot of people and have a personality that can blend into all environments and situations. By doing this, it will allow the audience to realize that she is not a threat or does not look psychotic at all. 

As the opening progresses on, her identity will slowly be revealed. This will be achieved by using setting and scenes. Changing from a social/ urban area to a more quiet and private place such as a house in a village. By doing this, the girl will slowly reveal her "secrets" and inner personality and would feel more comfortable to act out (reflecting back on "personality that blends with environment"). A personality like this would make our character look not only psychotic, but also a witty person at the same time. 

Obsession with love: When the girl's private location i assured, she starts to reveal her love to a boy (corpse) that she had kept in hiding for quite a while. By showing her "psychotic" love, the dead boy is used in order to complete this trait. It will also make the audience see that she is a psycho who kills boys for love and ownership.

Planning Days 1 & 2: OBSESSION

Planning Day 1 (1/12/15)

On the first day, we were assigned to our groups, I am with Ten and Nano and together we are "ChillBroSwaggins"Inc. A production house that makes movies with different unique genres. For this assignment, we will be making an opening o a Thriller film. What we did on the first day was talking amongst each other about different ideas of how we want the film to look like and ideas on what type of Thriller we will specifically highlight on. Then when we made up our mind, we wrote down possible plot ideas suggested from each member of the group. In the end, we ended up with 2 plots that can be developed further on.

Plot 1: A girl is madly obsessed and in love with a certain boy, so she decides to kill the boy in order to keep him away from other girls.

Plot 2: A boy is hallucinated and walks into an abandoned school and experiences weird feelings and curiousness about the school's atmosphere. Then he finally realises that the school is abandoned and there is a killer lurking within the school.

In the end, we finally decided to use the first plot because we believe that this plot can be further developed and that this idea seems to be more of a suitable plot than the second due to its "less fantasy" idea. After the lesson, each of us went back to do separate tasks, Ten wrote the script, and I had the job to bring his written script to life by drawing a story board.

Planning Day 2 (3/12/15)

Today, we talked a little bit more about the storyline to confirm on what we wanted, then, we briefly talked about location, props and characters. Today, we described on what kind of personality the girl character needed and thought of different names of girls who might be suitable for the role. Someone who looks normal or good looking on the outside but also has a certain look that makes her mysterious on the inside as well. 

Planning Days 3 & 4: script and storyboard

Script & Storyboard

Above is the script that Ten had written. On the 3rd day, we sat down and decide what the movie would progress on and what the characters will say. We tried to keep the dialogue short but have a broad range of enigmas that questions the audience through the use of semiotics and objects within the scene. The script consists of 3 characters, a random guy, the girl and the dead corpse and these 3 characters that build up tension as the story goes on. In the end, we decided to use this script as the MAIN SCRIPT of the opening credits.

After reading the script, I drew up a storyboard. It took me around 2 hours to convert the story from script and onto a piece of A2 storyboard with pictures. The concept at the beginning seemed a problem for me because at first, I could not picture what the script would've looked like if it was converted into specific frames. But, as I continue to draw up the board, I got a clear image of what I would like and what the group will also like and agree with.
